This NAACCR Talk will provide three different perspectives on the NCI funded National Childhood Cancer Registry (NCCR). This talk will cover the history and context of NCCR as well as training on the data products needed. Participants will come away with an understanding of the strengths and limitations of the NCCR data products in order to support appropriate and meaningful analyses.

Stephanie Hill, MPH, CTR

Stephanie Hill is an ODS-certified cancer registrar with over 20 years of experience in hospital and central cancer registry operations and cancer control. She is currently the Associate Director of NAACCR and oversees the collaborative change management process for cancer registry data standards in North America as well as NAACCR’s role in the National Childhood Cancer Registry. Before coming to NAACCR in 2020, Stephanie served as the Program Manager of Cancer Surveillance Operations for the New Jersey State Cancer Registry, and previously led the cancer registry of a CoC-accredited comprehensive community cancer program. Stephanie holds a Master of Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Science from Rutgers University. She is also a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt with a focus on quality improvement.

Fernanda Silva Michels, MSc, PhD, ODS-C. Fernanda is from Brazil and moved to the USA in 2012. She has central cancer registry experience (USA and Brazil) and holds a PhD degree in Epidemiology and Master’s degree in Oncology. During the pandemic she became an Oncology Data Specialist. She is the Program Manager of Data Quality and Integration for NAACCR

Rebecca Ottenson, MS

Senior Director of Data Analysis & Management for the Breast Oncology Cohorts Program

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

Rebecca Ottesen is the Senior Director of Data Analysis & Management for the Breast Oncology Cohorts Program at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where she leads the strategic oversight and integration of complex oncology data to support high-impact breast cancer research. Previously, she served as Associate Director in the Biostatistics Department at Emmes and as Biostatistics Director for the National Institute on Drug Abuse Clinical Trials Network Data and Statistics Center. Earlier in her career, Rebecca held a position as a Biostatistician Staff Scientist at the City of Hope, contributing to major oncology studies and advancing methods in clinical data analysis. As a data quality subject matter expert for the NCI’s National Childhood Cancer Registry (NCCR) Data Platform, Rebecca has helped shape the platform’s approach to data integrity and harmonization.
